Harvard's Board of Directors hired Claudine Gay because her vision for Harvard’s future is exactly what the Board has in mind. Here is that vision, as laid out in her 202 memo to the Harvard Faculty of Arts & Sciences:

“Our engagement in anti-racist action and the infusion of inclusive practices into all aspects of our teaching and research mission reflect a new sense of institutional responsibility and will require sustained effort over time…The work of racial justice is not a one-time project…Institutional inertia will threaten to overwhelm even our best efforts…Collectively, we are the authors of Harvard’s future. As we begin this historic year, I offer you my personal commitment to be a partner and ally in the work for equity and justice.”

Unless Harvard is committed to a different vision for its future and indicates same by replacing its Board of Directors, there is little reason to be hopeful. Gay remains at Harvard as a professor, and will continue to receive the same salary, nearly $900,000, she received as president. And that’s the latest from the Crimson light district of Cambridge.

She was a perfect fit for the Harvard Presidency. How was she at fund-raising? Isn't that one of the main functions of a college prez?

Harvard, with its colossal private endowment, must solicit donations from rich Poobahs and alumni to keep their stable of big shot Brainiacs fat and happy. Now this latest travesty of the left --the inability or unwillingness to condemn calls of "death to Israel" or "kill the Jews"from their zealous students and similar nonsense--has led some Jewish donors to put away their checkbooks. Jews are the oppressors of Palestinians, and that's that. No nuance, no history, just the crass calculation that determines whose boot is on whose neck.

Quo Vadis, Harvard?

Well said - right on the money!

We all dodged a bullet with Claudine Gay being a university president. Had she been a surgeon or an airplane pilot or a civil engineer there could have been many deaths as a result of her incompetence. As much as we hope this fiasco will hasten the end of affirmative action hiring it is important to remember how many unqualified AA hires are already in place in our workforce. What are we going to do with them? As we've seen with Gay they're not going to resign on their own!

You wish. The Democrats have already dumbed down requirements for air traffic controllers to "diversify" there. Airlines are already dumbing down requirements to "attract minorities." Democrat pols lament the "lack of black- and brown-skinned MDs" and of course affirmative action did wonders to dumb down the medical profession – across the board, definitely, with AMA celebrating the genital mutilation and sterilization of children.

You are being way too polite referring to Gay as a "lady" KK.

Interestingly, she gets to keep her doctorate by now inserting 3 citations.

When doing my PhD I lived in fear of losing the whole thing if I didn’t cite everything absolutely correctly. Humph!

Me too. Plagiarism is the ultimate sin

As Julia states, this is not a turning point. For these believers, and it not just a logical position, they are on a mission...this is a just a lost battle in a longer war. Such fanaticism will only back down after severe confrontation or a massive change of direction from their funders and board members.

Imagine if DEI gets to the Olympics, with the 100 meters being one black guy, one oriental some trans Indian, and a white guy. Sad bordering on sadistic.

Listened to an interview today by Douglas Murray of Ayaan Hirsi Ali. The latter is a person whose amazing story and “content of character” (the famous

MLK quote) are beyond reproach. When asked by DM what she thought of Gay, AHA answered, “My grandmother wouldn’t trust her to herd her goats.”

DEI:

Division

Exclusion

Indoctrination

An absolute cancer that has spread from universities, to our public services, corporates and larger charities. We shouldn't need this burgeoning movement at the heart of any of our workplaces but organisations fearing being out of step with others are increasingly requesting more EDI drivel to be stated and evidenced for businesses to engage and win contracts with the ideologically captured.

I would deeply welcome the day we return to some normality when this crap is ousted and we can get back to treating people and colleagues as individuals, with respect and good manners. That is all.

If you want to judge people, do so by how they treat you and others, how skilled they are and how well they do their work. Not by their skin colour, sexuality, "gender identity" nonsense, or by their sex or any disabilities they may have.

The destructive lens through which the EDI commissars expect us to do business and simply get a job done or work as part of a team, is only promoting division where it didn't exist before. It serves to force people tread on eggshells, not speak their mind and leads us to become more suspect into any non-meritocratic reasons people may get appointed for roles they are unsuitable.

"..we must return to pursuing the goal of a colour-blind society immediately. There is no such thing as positive discrimination." Yep, but personally I find the individuals and their modus operandi in deconstructing such a system to be particularly of interest. #noaccident
