I think it should be up to the Ukrainians at what point it ends. I hope they evict the Russians from all parts of their territory (including Crimea and the Donbas) & we should support them on that. And then we should build an exclusion zone along their entire border with Russia (as the Finns are doing). Sanctions should remain in place until the kidnapped Ukrainian children are returned and the Russian war criminals are handed over for prosecution. That should be our aim until the Ukrainians tell us otherwise.

Isn't that how most wars end--with compromise?

Ukraine is going to be looking for more billions to rebuild. Their criminal element before the war was concerning and I hope they don't stand in line to profit over the bodies of their fellow compatriots.

Except that those that do generally end up re-starting some years later. Good examples are the Napoleonic Wars, that man just would not stop, and the century of German Wars, starting with Bismarck's engineered war against Denmark in 1864, and ending with the annihilation of Germany in 1945. Like it or not, there's a clear and enduring message: psychopathic dictators will not stop until they are destroyed.

Well done, mate. Something of a Churchill moment if I may make so bold. Good to hear some informed resolve coming from across the pond.
