The Trump administration has a clear mandate to reform higher education. In this guest post on my friend Konstantin Kisin's Substack, I outline what I think they should do.
The administration should use existing federal laws and funding threats to force universities to adopt free expression, institutional neutrality, and hiring on merit and nothing else (i.e. race, gender, politics, etc.). They should not take universities' words for it, since many have flagrantly broken laws for the past decade at least. Instead they should send in federal monitors to audit each campus' practices. The administration should also make big investments in research areas that are missing (e.g. western civ, military history). But they should not violate academic freedom or make across-the-board funding cuts. -
