Konstantin, the human spirit can both appall and and stun by its magnificence. As a man of quiet integrity, you went out in a storm to protest against authoritarianism.

The midwife who came, at the last minute, to bring your son into this world as your wife intended, was also an embodiment of quiet integrity. There are a few such individuals born in every generation.

Please, please get a copy of the extraordinarily beautifully written “The Birobidzhan Affair: A Yiddish Writer in Siberia” by Israel Emiot to read what a poet’s soul of quiet integrity saw and has preserved for the rest of us. This book will stays with one forever. We need to fully understand, for both better and worse, what humans are capable of. And to make our choices accordingly.

Thank you for presenting the experience of your son’s birth and the near-miraculously capable midwife who chose the path she did in this world.
