In my last post, I mentioned that I’d spoken to a couple of people I really respect at the back end of last year and the second of these is Ayaan Hirsi Ali.
For people who are unfamiliar with her work, she is a person who is truly couragerous in a way that the overwhelming majority of people who get called “brave” are really not.
She is someone for whom I have a tremendous respect, particular because she combines her toughness, courage and willingness to fight for her principles with being a kind, gentle and warm soul.
Ayaan has recently launched a podcast and I was delighted to speak with her. We had a great conversation - check it out.
She is a very useful original voice on this chaos... Glad you had a chat with her too
Good conversation. On the falling fertility rates, I've also noticed that it's mainly male podcasters etc talking about this issue, or raising it as a concern. But then when I look around me, at least anecdotally within my own immediate and extended family, my circle of friends and acquaintances across several countries, it's typically women who want to have kids and the men in their lives, who either don't want kids at all or don't want to have more kids (than say, one or two). And I don't think it's because of financial reasons, it seems to me it's more about wanting to keep a certain lifestyle, though there could be more to it - I'm not sure 🤷♀️
