Interesting how the most staggeringly sane social commentary comes from people who were once "comedians", like KK, Francis, and Andrew Doyle. I'm sure I ought to be able to find something much cleverer to say about that, e.g. all great comedy being filtered through existential despair, like Woody Allen and Tony Hancock and Galton and Simpson, but I'm too busy ironing my swastika T-shirt for the Pride/Hamas rally later...

Am reading Chernow's biography of Mark Twain that recently came out - and I find this not so surprising. I had no idea how political he really was (though he used satire instead of whatever it is that the late night talk shows in the US were using).

Plus, the most powerful tool the "humorist" has - is actually being funny. If it's just a comedian ranting, well, that ain't all that funny!

Insane levels of two tier lawfare in the UK at the moment. Am I far right? No, I’m just old enough to remember back to the sixties.

Precisely. A 60s liberal is now a 2025 far right...

Aye, sad but true and more than a little depressing at times.

Great comedy piece on actual incidents that make your head want to explode… It’s unbelievable to think Western nations have come to this!

Bravo! As a UK-educated American, I’m astonished at how it’s all unraveling in Britain — and I lived there during the disastrous Socialist rule of the 1970s. MAKE BRITAIN GREAT AGAIN!

I’m an old(er) lady now, but I’ve lived and worked around the world, including in the Middle East and the former Soviet Union. I’ve been warning my family in England about this coming for years. They stuck their fingers in their ears and when asked about losing their British culture, they replied, “What culture?”

So now they’re being given someone else’s culture (and we all know what that is), good and hard.

Better get your kicking boots on England, Australia, Canada, Europe, Scandinavia, the clock is ticking fast on the game. So far you’re only scoring own goals.

Thank you for this – it made me smile on a very dark day. The facts are stranger than any fiction, and what was once satire has been surpassed by reality – perhaps that accounts for comedians now being some of the most astute social commentators. What the actual is going on here in the UK? A man arrested for saying only what all parents of young women have been saying to their daughters since time immemorial... including apparently the parents of the queen, who allegedly used that tactic very effectively. Presumably, now, she would be arrested, especially if the man was wearing high heels and lipstick.

Is the law enforcement going along with this without asking any questions? Are there absolutely no second guessing of these decisions inside the force? I understand that they are subject to the command from the helm but isn't there any dissent whatsoever?

Kristjan, I’m sure that you’ll struggle to find evidence of there having been any regime in history which was so wicked, vile, tyrannical that it was unable to recruit the apparatchiks to carry out its dreadful agenda.

The buck stops here: Sir Mark Rowley is the The Commissioner of the London Met Police. He should either make changes or resign. Mark! this nonsense is being carried out by the institution you lead! Do the right thing.

You’re whistling down the wind. Rowley is a coward. Like a lot of the police are today, they’re hired for their compliance, not their competence or integrity. That’s quite obvious by now isn’t it. These “Nice” and “Decent” Bobbie’s comply with their masters, not the prols. You’re being sold out.
